Jen Rice:Personal Trainer

Jen began training and competing in triathlons in her native Canada in 2000. In 2002 she represented Canada as an age-group triathlete and progressed to finish Ironman Canada in 2005 in an impressive time of 12 hours. Through working in the sporting industry for Canadian athletic company Sugoi; Jen recognised the combination of working with people while also being active in the fitness industry, was her true calling. She started her fitness training career at the YMCA in the gym and progressed to become a certified Personal trainer through the British Colombia Recreation and Parks Association. She also became a certified body/mind nutritionist under the guidance of Lars Guftuson.
In March 2003 she started the YMCA’s first “triathlete in training” programme, taught various classes from Spin to Stroller Robics and personally trained a wide range of clientele.
As her reputation grew she started her own company contracting as a personal trainer to fitness studios, trained clients in their homes and initiated the seriously popular outdoor “Kick My Butt Bootcamp” fitness classes.
She is comfortable training swimmers, runners and cyclists of all levels. Her passion is to train people for whatever athletic activity they aspire to become better at.
“My main focus is to train endurance athletes to be more efficient, stronger and faster at their sport outside of the gym environment” she says.
“I was drawn to this industry because I wanted to inspire others to lead a balanced, fulfilling and healthy lifestyle.”
Jen’s love of the outdoors combined with group fitness training sessions at local parks and beaches is a perfect fit. Clients are quick to respond to her effective training methods and are quick to notice decreased body fat, increased strength, and general improvements in body tone and appearance.
Since her first visit to train for Ironman New Zealand in 2006 Jen has found the country and its people have captured her heart. She has learned to kayak and has embraced multi-sporting as her activity of choice. In 2009 her and partner Andreas had a baby boy, Cosmo, and is loving being a mom.
“Happiness, motivation, balance and a greater sense of self is my vision for every client and person I touch.”
