Postural and Functional Assessment

Assessing how your posture and body is functioning is the first step in helping to optimise how your body works to eliminate imbalances, preventing injury and getting the most out of your training.

The importance of postural assessment

The human body requires every muscle to work in synergy with each other in order for it to function optimally and with as little stress on the joints, tendons and ligaments as possible. As soon as one or more muscles become too tight or too weak an imbalance is created and eventually firing (neurological) patterns change to accommodate this. Unless the body is kept in balance the weaker muscles get weaker and the tighter muscles get tighter and eventually, injury will result. Muscle imbalances do not correct themselves without intervention.

We want to ensure that everyone that trains at Form Fitness is functioning correctly, using the right muscles to move and working towards holding optimum posture so that the least amount of wear and tear is sustained on their joints.

What a postural assessment includes

Before engaging in an exercise regime our personal trainers will first analyse your structure, look at your posture and undertake a functional assessment to identify:

  • Current posture
  • Tight muscles/long or hyper mobile muscles
  • Weak muscles/strong muscles
  • Firing pattern/movement pattern abnormalities

With this information we can see how you are currently functioning and what needs to be addressed to restore optimum posture and symmetry within your body. We can also address any firing pattern problems (muscles that may not be being recruited or used well) and muscle imbalances that if left untreated will compromise your structure and physical health.

If you would like to work on your posture and correct any muscle imbalances you have Contact us to Book a Postural and Functional Assessment today.

* An Assessment precedes Personal Training with one of our Experienced PTs and is required before we can design an individualised training plan for you.

Postural assessment to prevent injury

An assessment is also important for someone who has sustained an injury, as postural problems and muscle imbalances are likely to have contributed to their injury. Also anyone who has not yet suffered injuries in order to avoid future problems and keep the body in symetry.
